Gwinnett Daily Post
It was my honor to be called on a few years ago to lead the effort to put together the five-year strategic plan that was a cooperative effort called Partnership Gwinnett led by the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce. The first thing that we confirmed when we documented the strengths and weaknesses of our community, was that the major reason for our success in Gwinnett was the strength of our educational system.
The centerpiece of this key asset of our community, is the Gwinnett Public Schools System, which has continued to garner national awards even during a rapid shift in the demographics of its students. A major element in this success story, is the willingness of the Gwinnett community to continue to provide our students with world-class facilities that work to keep up with the rapid growth of our system. The ability to provide new and upgraded facilities has been made possible primarily through the passing of E-SPLOST through the last several years. In fact, some 30 percent of our schools in Gwinnett were funded by this very important fund.
It is time for renewal of the E-SPLOST 1-cent tax, and we need to make sure that we all go to the poll and vote affirmatively on Nov. 8 for renewal of this important support for our growing school system.
Our school system has always followed through with the commitments that they have made relative to past E-SPLOST project list, so they have earned our trust.
It is more important than ever for us to continue our support to the very centerpiece of our community, our great schools. If want to the first community to fully "pull out of the great recession" we need to make sure that our key asset continues to receive the support that it needs and deserves.
