LAWRENCEVILLE -- A rezoning request that would allow the expansion of Mitsubishi Electric and Electronics in Gwinnett is up for debate tonight.
The proposal, which could add more than 200 jobs in the next 10 years, is to rezone 33 acres on Satellite Boulevard from office to industrial use.
Mark Gary, who owns the Noble Village retirement community next door, said he and other neighbors have been working to negotiate higher-end finishes for the 500,000-square-foot building. He said some of his residents have been concerned, especially since the project is backed by the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce for its potential jobs.
"It looks nice," Gary said of proposed conditions for a brick and stone facade. "It took us a long time to get there. We want it to stick at the (Board of Commissioners) level."
A contact for the company seeking the zoning did not return a phone call Monday.
The board is expected to vote Tuesday night.
