SNELLVILLE -- Saturday dawned brisk and bright, perfect weather for Snellville's second annual Fall Festival. People from Snellville, the surrounding area and as far away as California enjoyed the beautiful weather, 70-plus arts and crafts vendors, children's activities and contests.
"There was so much positive response to last year's festival. This is the kind of thing we in the city want to continue to have, moving forward," said city councilman-elect Dave Emanuel. "Everybody seems to have a good time."
A scarecrow contest, children's costume contest and pie and cake contest livened up the already festive atmosphere. Children with faces painted and trailing colorful balloons across the Town Green squealed with delight, while others enjoyed the inflatables and hayrides.
James P. Dempsey, president of the Greater Eastside Chamber of Commerce, said of the event, "There is a great attitude of excitement and energy here, reflecting the true pride of the Snellville business and civic community."
One of the exhibitors Saturday was the city's new Arts Organization, temporarily called "Hello Arts." The name of the organization will be decided and officially changed in a Nov. 7 community meeting, according to Leslie Raab, a member of the Arts steering committee.
"People have been very receptive, excited to see the arts being represented in Snellville," Raab said.
The new organization will give stage to writers, painters, dancers, musicians and artists of all types.
While a DJ entertained the crowd for most of the day, musical artists All Red and Don Law treated festival-goers to popular live music.
Councilman-elect Bobby Howard summed up the daylong event by saying, "This festival is the absolute best showing of our community that's out there. It's wonderful."
