BUFORD -- Buford post T.J. Shipes, who helped the Wolves to a Class AA state runner-up finish last spring, has secured his college future by giving a verbal commitment to Georgia State.
The 6-foot-8, 220-pound senior will stay in-state and plans to sign his national letter of intent with the Panthers next month over other scholarship offers from Old Dominion, Boston University, Alabama-Birmingham, Rice, Northeastern and Jacksonville.
Shipes has led Buford in scoring and rebounding the last two seasons, averaging 13.8 points and 9.5 rebounds per game as a sophomore before posting 14.6 points and 8.6 rebounds per game as a junior last year during the Wolves' run to the state finals.
