LAWRENCEVILLE -- A citizens committee slated to study the county airport is now full, so meetings are expected to begin soon.
Commissioner Shirley Lasseter added her picks to the board Tuesday: Terry Britt and Nickie Summers.
"I did try to pick people who were very open-minded. Neither one of them have a dog in this fight except to do what is best for Gwinnett County," Lasseter said of her appointees to the committee, formed to study the controversial proposal to privatize Briscoe Field in Lawrenceville.
Other commissioners chose their representatives two weeks ago. The members include: Gaye McNeil, Steve Ramey, Mary Jane Polizzotto, Woody Woodruff. Jeff Timler, Gary Custar, Tony Powell and Jim Regan. Tip Cape will represent the county's airport authority.
County spokesman Joe Sorenson said officials are "working out some kinks," before a request for proposals is issued for companies interested in taking over the general aviation airport. After more than a year of pubic outcry, officials now plan to seek proposals that continue the operations as general aviation, allowing companies to propose commercial flights as part of a long-term vision for the airport.
A meeting date for the committee has not yet been set.
