Writer/director Terrence Malick's "The Tree of Life" isn't a movie to be enjoyed as much as it something to examined and appreciated. Equally polarizing to both critics and audiences, the movie is a prime example of the liberal arts mindset taken to extremes. Lacking anything resembling a traditional narrative and practically devoid of dialogue, it is a non-linear, two decade-long story of a Texas family in the '60s and '70s and it perfectly captures that era's look and feel. The accompanying documentary goes far in explaining if not clearing up viewers' questions and gets about as close as anything will ever get into Malick's head.
