Loganville Red Devils (8-AAAA)
Coach: Eric Godfree
Record: 3-3, 3-3 region
Last week: Beat Cedar Shoals 30-27
Winder-Barrow Bulldoggs (8-AAAA)
Coach: David Wagner
Record: 0-6, 0-6 region
Last week: Lost to Heritage 21-0
The Bulldoggs gave a stout effort against undefeated and No. 10 state-ranked Heritage last week, but still saw their losing streak extend to 20 games.
On paper, the deck doesn't seem as stacked against Winder-Barrow as much this week with Loganville coming to town, but Bulldoggs coach David Wagner says looks can be deceiving, especially with the Red Devils fighting to stretch their string of playoff appearances to four straight seasons.
"They're better than their record," Wagner said of the Red Devils. "They're a good, solid football team. Their quarterback is excellent. He runs the ball well. He throws the ball well. He leads their team well. And defensively, you rarely catch them out of position.
"We've got to put together 48 minutes of mistake-free football and take advantage of opportunities when they do present themselves."
Indeed, Winder-Barrow will have to try to slow down a Loganville offense that has posted 30 or more points in four of its six games, led by quarterback Garrett Ford and running back Bernard Merriweather.
The Bulldoggs may be up to the task if it can continue to get the same defensive effort given last week, especially form the defensive line, led by defensive end Taylor Pineda.
However, the offense must also find a way to put points on the board, something that has been difficult lately, with Winder-Barrow having been shut out in two of the last three games.
Last meeting: Loganville won 32-7 last year
Directions to Winder-Barrow High School: From Ga. Highway 316 east, go left on Highway 81 into Winder, turn left at third light onto Candler Street and stadium is about one-tenth mile on the right.
