NORCROSS -- Greater Atlanta Christian had no trouble in the first round of the Class A/AA state volleyball tournament as the Spartans blew past Spencer 25-3, 25-11, 25-10. Dede Bohannon had eight kills and three aces while Janaya Simmons added seven kills for GAC (38-4). Emma Taylor chipped in six kills and Rachel Waldrop added 19 assists for the Spartans, who advance to play the winner of Our Lady of Mercy-North Oconee next Tuesday. GAC also got 13 assists from Jennie McCarty and seven kills from Ali Cox.
Buford rolls past Brookstone
BUFORD -- Buford got off to a fast start in the Class A/AA state volleyball tournament as the Wolves took care of Brookstone 25-13, 25-14, 25-14 in first-round action. Buford (24-13) moves on to the second round to take on the winner of Hart County-Eagle's Landing Christian Academy next Tuesday. Bailey Hicks had 22 assists, seven assists and seven digs while Maggie Roper had 13 kills and five assists for the Wolves. Mikhayla Riegel added 11 digs for Buford.
Hebron too much for Kendrick
COLUMBUS -- Eden Murray had 12 kills and Maddi Roof added 10 kills as Hebron Christian Academy defeated Kendrick 25-16, 25-10, 25-15 in the first round of the Class A/AA state volleyball tournament. Mini Schulte and Mollie Russell each had five kills and Savannah Blalock had 20 assists for the Lions (27-15), who will now take on Jefferson in the second round next Tuesday.
Wesleyan knocks off Sonoraville
CALHOUN -- Alana Broe had 11 kills and six digs to lead Wesleyan to a 25-12, 25-15, 27-25 road win over Sonoraville in the first round of the Class A/AA state volleyball tournament. Jennifer Miller added 21 digs and Callie Bivings had 37 assists and five aces for the Wolves (31-15), who move on to play the winner of Savannah Country Day-Lovett next Tuesday.
Providence cruises past Jordan
COLUMBUS -- Providence Christian Academy got nine aces and six digs from Codi Ann Amis to lead the Stars to a 25-16, 25-17, 25-10 win on the road over Jordan in the first round of the Class A/AA state volleyball tournament. Maddie Jones added four aces and 13 kills while D'Anna Kester had four aces and 27 assists for the Stars (27-18), who move into the second round to face the winner of Athens Academy-Strong Rock Christian on Tuesday. Kaitlin Harper and Ali Cox each added seven kills, Emily Walls had four kills and Misty Parker five digs for Providence.
