BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — South Carolina quarterback Connor Shaw is the Southeastern Conference offensive player of the week. Shaw passed for 311 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions in the Gamecocks' rout of Kentucky in just his second career start. He also rushed for 42 yards after replacing Stephen Garcia as starter. He had thrown for 252 yards and one touchdown in his career coming into the game.
Georgia linebacker Mike Gilliard wins defensive honors after recording 12 tackles, a sack and a forced fumble against Tennessee. Bulldogs kicker Blair Walsh is special teams player of the week after making two field goals. LSU guard Will Blackwell and Mississippi State defensive tackle Fletcher Cox are linemen of the week, and Arkansas cornerback Tevin Mitchel turned in the top freshman performance.More like this story
