DULUTH — After months of sorting through proposals for the Red Clay Theatre, the Duluth City Council approved one sent by Eddie Owen, founder of Decatur’s popular music venue Eddie’s Attic. Red Clay has had trouble staying afloat in the past as a theatrical venue — especially with New Dawn Theatre down the street and the Aurora Theatre in Lawrenceville. There were also problems with former management companies.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — South Carolina quarterback Connor Shaw is the Southeastern Conference offensive player of the week. Shaw passed for 311 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions in the Gamecocks' rout of Kentucky in just his second career start. He also rushed for 42 yards after replacing Stephen Garcia as starter. He had thrown for 252 yards and one touchdown in his career coming into the game.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Bonita Braswell Iler and husband, Tim of Buford, GA and Robin Braswell Callahan and husband, Jeff of Buford, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Larry Braswell, Jr. and wife, Sunny of Lawrenceville, GA; eight grandchildren, Eddie Sammons, Billy Braswell, Joseph Iler, Joshua Callahan, Raychelle Callahan, Rebecca Callahan, Sharon and James Gregory, and Lauren Braswell; one great grandchild, Madison Gregory; mother, Emma Shellnutt Meeks of Lawrenceville, GA; sister and brother-in-law, Bertie and Curtis Loving of Commerce, GA; brothers and sister-in-law, Lenard Meeks, Jr. and Gerald and Frances Meeks of Buford, GA; several nieces, nephews and cousins; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Evelyn Braswell Jauch of Flowery Branch, GA and Carrie Braswell Szell and husband, Imre of Decatur, GA; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Truell and Joyce Braswell of Carnesville, GA. Mrs. Varnadoe was born October 28, 1943 in LaGrange, GA. She was a 1960 graduate of Buford High School in Buford, GA. She was a member of Buford Church of God. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 13, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Buford Church of God with Pastor Rev. Edward Davenport officiating. Interment will follow at Broadlawn Memorial Gardens in Buford, GA.
