Thomas James (T.J.) Highfill, Sr., age 89, of Snellville, Georgia, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, October 8, 2011, after a short battle to cancer. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 36 years, Earmon Irene Highfill on January , 10, 1981; and his second wife of 29 years, Betty Britt Highfill on January 28, 2009; parents, Martha Rebecca Booth Highfill and Will Mont Highfill. He is survived by his four children; Thomas James (Tommy) Highfill, Jr. and his wife Denise of Loganville, GA, and their three children, Brian Highfill, Josh Highfill, and Christine Luttrell; Michael Mont (Mike) Highfill, Sr., and his wife Deborah of Snellville, GA, and their six children, Michael M. Highfill, Jr., Angie Banks, James John, Eric John, Alesha Knight, and Jennifer Champaign; Anna R. (Becky) Wilson and her husband Michael F. of Braselton, GA, and their three children, Chasity Martin,
Caroline Wilson, and Christian Wilson; John Wayne (Johnny) Highfill and his wife Cheryl of Roberta, GA, and their five children, Andy Highfill, Anthony Highfill, Hannah Highfill, Preston Wood, and Eric Wood; 24 great grandchildren; and a host of many friends. Mr. Highfill was born in Atlanta, Georgia on March 25, 1922. He was a faithful servant of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was a Deacon at Gloster Baptist Church, Lilburn, GA for 29 years, and also at Fellowship Baptist Church, Lilburn, GA for 22 years. He was a loving, kind, caring and gracious father and grandfather. Mr. Highfill was a great story teller and he will be missed more than words can express. He was a World War II veteran and served under General Patton throughout Germany from July, 1944 to June, 1946, serving in the United States Army 359th Infantry Company. He was a light machine gunner, and received the EAME Service Medal with Two Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. Mr. Highfill was a proud American who loved and believed in his country. He retired from the General Motors Assembly Plant after 31 years of service, and was a member of the Mountain Park Masonic Lodge #729 F. A.M. A Service Celebrating the Life of Mr. Highfill will be held Tuesday, October 11, 2011, at 2:00 P.M. at Tom M. Wages Snellville Chapel with Rev. Raymond Wilson and Rev. Wesley Davis officiating. Interment Eternal Hills Memory Gardens with Military Honors and Masonic Rites. The family will receive friends on Sunday and Monday from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. and 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Flowers accepted.
