SUWANEE -- The North Gwinnett High School Basketball Booster Club is hosting the fifth annual Taste of Suwanee at Town Center Park on Saturday. More than 30 local restaurants will have their menus on display for the public to taste test.
Some of the restaurants and eateries who will be present are Spiced Right BBQ, Mellow Mushroom, Olde Towne Tavern and Grille, Rita's Italian Ice, Marco's Pizza and Diggers Grill and Tap.
"We won't have an eating contest this year," Suzee Northrup, event coordinator said. "We will still be giving out the 'Best Taste' Award. There will be judges to pick our first, second and third place."
Last year, Jim 'N Nicks Bar-B-Q, The Fresh Market and Rita's Italian Ice took the top prizes.
Worried about missing your college team play? Don't be. Dish Network is setting up a lounge for all the football fanatics with all of the live games. Live entertainment from local bands, dance troupes, theater groups and more will be performing throughout the day in the amphitheater and children have a chance to burn some energy at the Fun Zone. Artists will also set up shop selling everything from jewelry to eco-friendly stationary.
Northrup has one piece of advice for attendees, "Come hungry. Circle the park first and see what is there because it's like a buffet. Sometimes you fill your plate with lots of stuff and don't find the food you really want until you're already full."
The North Gwinnett Basketball Booster Club receives partial funds from the event, which helps the players with uniforms and equipment each season.
Food samples range from one to six tickets depending on the vendor and quantity. Tickets are $0.50 a piece and are sold in sheets of 10. Admission to the event is free.
