BUFORD -- The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is looking into the Wednesday stabbing death of an inmate at Phillips State Prison in Buford.
The 27-year-old victim -- whose identity has not been released pending notification of family -- was stabbed to death at about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in a "sally port" at the prison, GBI spokesman John Bankhead said. An autopsy of the victim was performed Thursday at the GBI crime lab.
Charges against the suspected killer, a 32-year-old inmate whose identity was also not released, are pending, Bankhead said.
Those charges will come later, since the suspect is "not going anywhere," Bankhead said. The suspect was already serving a life sentence for murder.
The victim was incarcerated on a burglary conviction.
The GBI and Department of Corrections are continuing to investigate the matter, Bankhead said.
