King's Ridge Tigers (5-A North)
Coach: Jeff Pickren
Record: 3-2, 1-1 subregion
Last week: Had a bye
King's Ridge has hopes of the best season in its young history, beating a good Fellowship Christian team 37-25 in the subregion opener. It's the same Fellowship team that gave Wesleyan trouble in a 14-7 win two weeks ago.
But the Wolves' game vs. Fellowship was played without sophomore quarterback Will Anderson, and he makes quite a difference. After missing three-plus games with an injury, Anderson threw a school-record six touchdown passes last week in a win over Pace. Four of those TDs, also a school record, went to Rodney Morris, who forms a dangerous wide receiver tandem with Eric Sunderman, who had been forced into action as a fill-in QB. Sunderman broke the school record for receiving yards in a game last Friday.
"It's amazing you bring one kid back and everything is better," Pridgen said of Anderson's return. "We were better on special teams. We were better on defense. It was like there was less pressure and we could just go out and play."
The Wolves jumped ahead 21-0 in a hurry against Pace and cruised to a lopsided victory. It was a relief considering the run of close games they've had so far this season.
"It was nice because we've been in some real nail-biters," Pridgen said. "It was nice to have one where we felt like we were in control the whole time."
Last meeting: Wesleyan won 49-6 last year
