LAWRENCEVILLE -- Police have charged a Lawrenceville man in the Sunday night killing of a 24-year-old man who officials said stumbled into a burglary and was shot.
Lawrenceville police arrested Steven James Green, 28, on charges of felony murder, burglary and weapons possession Tuesday in connection with the fatal shooting of Anthony Shane Augustus, of Lawrenceville.
Augustus was accompanied by another man at the time, who was assaulted, treated for his injuries and released. Augustus, shot in his lower abdomen, died at Gwinnett Medical Center, officials said.
Investigators believe the two victims interrupted a burglary in progress inside unit No. 109 at the Cedargate Apartments off Longleaf Drive in Lawrenceville.
Green's warrants indicate he was attempting to rob Augustus when he shot him.
Lawrenceville police have said the apartment was specifically targeted in the burglary. Green's listed address on Senior Drive is about two miles from the crime scene. Police released no other details on the investigation Wednesday.
Green remains at the Gwinnett County Jail without bond, pending a probable cause hearing scheduled Oct. 19.
