Mayfield to close Braselton visitor center

BRASELTON -- The Mayfield Dairy's visitor center in Braselton will close Oct. 31 due to slow economic times and the need to remain competitive in the dairy industry. The Milk Plant will stay open for production and distribution.

On Sept. 29, the Mayfield Dairy's Braselton Visitor Center Facebook page posted, "We regret to inform all of our friends that our Mayfield Visitor Center will be closing on October 31st. We have truly enjoyed meeting, touring, and serving all of you and we hope you will come by and visit us during our last month of business."

Although Braselton's visitor's center will be closed, Mayfield will keep the tourist center open in Athens, Tenn. to educate children.

"Operating this visitor's center wasn't economically sustainable anymore," said Jamaison Schuler, senior manager of corporate communications at Dean Foods Company which own's Mayfield Dairy. "At this point, it will remain closed until the end of the year."

The company will study the Tennessee location for ways to operate in a less costly manner and apply it back to the Braselton plant.

"This decision was a difficult but necessary one that will help us continue to invest in the Mayfield brand and the hundreds of employees that produce and sell Mayfield products," Schuler said.

I am so sorry to hear this. The Mayfield Visitor Center was a wonderful place to take visitors and grandkids. Thanks for all the fun and I wish the company all the best because Mayfield products are the best. Maybe when the economy turns around this can be looked at again.
