NORCROSS -- By unanimous vote Monday night, Norcross City Council members OK'd the annexation of the former Gwinnett County property located at 6050 Peachtree Industrial Blvd.
The applicant will redevelop the existing Holiday Inn Garden hotel on the site, committing about $8 million to the interior and exterior renovation. Landscaping will also be improved on the site.
"I'm very pleased they want to join the city of Norcross," said city councilman Ross Kaul. Both the applicant and the city intend to make the site a welcoming gateway to Norcross, though no definite agreement is currently in place.
Community Development director Chris McCrary worked with the applicant on the proposed project and proposed future Gateway Master Plan. Construction on the project should start immediately. Two special-use permits deniedCouncil members voted to deny two special-use permit applications Monday, citing non-compliance with city code guidelines as the reason. Properties at 6062 Buford Highway and 5555 Buford Highway may not be used to house places of worship, as the buildings in question do not comply with the city's defined special-use locations.100-year-old resident recognized Mayor Bucky Johnson read a proclamation Monday, honoring Evelyn Fern Ginan Dray for turning 100 years old on Sept. 13. Born in 1911, the centenarian has lived in Norcross since 1985. She has two children, five grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
