GWINNETT GAB: Sign up now for Christmas gift program

LAWRENCEVILLE -- The Quinn House, a ministry to those in need, is having its annual Christmas gift program for children and seniors from low-income families.

Registration opens Tuesday. Parents and seniors may call the Quinn House at 770-317-5026 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday to register for the gift program.

Organizers said participants should call early to register, as space fills up quickly.

Those who would like to be a sponsor for children or seniors can also call 770-317-5026 during registration hours up until Dec. 24.

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Newk's Express Cafe in Lawrenceville has scheduled a benefit for the Gwinnett Medical Center Foundation from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Oct. 13-14 at the 911 Duluth Highway location.

The restaurant will donate at least 10 percent of all sales to the foundation. Organizers said the business hopes to raise more than $3,000 for the foundation.

"We just opened in August, so having a benefit for the hospital, which is located right across the street from us, is a great way for Newk's to help out and get involved in the community," said Greg LaFoe, owner of the Lawrenceville restaurant.

BUFORD -- Victoria Westmoreland, 19, the daughter of John and Reniece Westmoreland of Buford, has been selected to represent the state of Georgia at the 2011 Miss American Coed Pageant.At the Georgia Coed, Westmoreland will be attending the National Pageant for her age group in Florida and Disney World during the week of Thanksgiving.

She will compete for the national title of Miss American Coed and thousands of dollars in cash awards, prizes and scholarships.

American Coed Pageants Inc. annually holds state pageants for the purpose of "recognizing and rewarding outstanding young women between the ages of 3 and 24 for their past and present accomplishments and to encourage them to set and achieve high goals for the future."
