SUWANEE -- Norcross' Hogan Construction Group has been approved as the contractor for Suwanee's new 7,100 foot police substation and training facility at 2996 Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road on the Suwanee Gateway area.
Work is expected to begin by the end of December or early January. Construction was approved at a maximum cost of a little more than $1.6 million; the anticipated total project cost is approximately $1.99 million. The project is funded primarily through SPLOST funds.
"Placing a police substation in the heavily commercial, heavily traveled Suwanee Gateway area serves several purposes," City Manager Marty Allen said. "Most importantly, it serves an operational need to provide ongoing training opportunities for our police personnel, reducing the need for them to travel to other jurisdictions for such training."
Construction is expected to take 8 months.

I wish the GDP would investigate who the owner of the property bought by Suwanee is. Doesn't it seems like a waste of taxpayer money to buy a highly visible piece of commercial property for a high price when Suwanee could have purchased much cheaper land?
Since when does our government "blow" money on such expensive property? I would also like to know what Suwanee's alternative choices were.
