ATLANTA — U.S. Postal Service officials say they expect a large turnout for a public meeting this week on its proposal to move mail processing operations from an Athens facility to its North Metro Processing and Distribution Center in Duluth.
The meeting is set for 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hilsman Middle School in Athens.
The Postal Service said in a statement that it has an excess of employees and equipment in some mail processing operations as mail volume has declined.
U.S. Postal Service spokesman Michael Miles told the Athens Banner-Herald that a large turnout is expected for the meeting because there's broad interest in the issue.
