LAWRENCEVILLE -- Holidays shoppers have two ways to support the Gwinnett County Public Library while buying gifts for others this season. They can purchase products online or dedicate a book -- both will benefit the library.
One way shoppers can support the library system is by purchasing gifts online from Barnes and Noble, Amazon.com and Better World Books, Inc. GCPL is part of an affiliate program with each company, so every time someone buys a product from one of the companies' websites, the library system receives a percentage of the purchase.
"As online shopping becomes more the norm for all of us, we hope linking through the library to shop at our affiliates becomes an automatic response," said Gwinnett County Public Library Executive Director Nancy Stanbery-Kellam. "It is painless to the shopper and so beneficial to the library."
One thing to remember: use the company links on the library's website. It will automatically notify the retailer to give a portion of the proceeds back.
The other way shoppers can give back is by sponsoring a book for someone this holiday season. When a book is sponsored, there is a donation given to the library and a donation marker is placed in the cover of a book in a collection.
"This is a wonderful way for people to give the gift of reading while supporting their library," Stanbery-Kellam said. "Children and adults alike really get a kick out of seeing their name on the bookplate of a book that has been dedicated in their honor."
Books can be sponsored in $25 increments.
