Brickell qualifies for Foot Locker nationals

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Peachtree Ridge cross country runner Josh Brickell joined an elite group of all-time great runners from Georgia on Saturday.

Brickell placed fourth at the Foot Locker South Regional at McAlpine Greenway Park, earning a trip to the national meet next month.

Brickell posted a time of 14 minutes, 41 seconds on the 5K course. Craig Nowak from Cypress, Texas, won the race with a time of 14:37.

The top 10 from the race qualify for the Foot Locker national meet on Dec. 10 in San Diego.

Brickell, a junior, is the two-time defending Class AAAAA state champion from Georgia and the Daily Post's Runner of the Year.

Since Foot Locker began holding a national meet in 1979, about two dozen male runners from Georgia have qualified for the meet. Only a handful from Gwinnett County have ever qualified. The most recent were Grayson's Kirubel Erassa in 2009 and Berkmar's Girma Mecheso in 2006.
