LAWRENCEVILLE -- Police are asking for the public's help in identifying a man who died early Friday morning after being hit by a tractor-trailer.
Gwinnett County Police responded to the scene on I-85 south near Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road.
The incident happened about 3 a.m., and several lanes of traffic were shut down while the accident investigation unit worked the scene.
Investigators said they did not believe that alcohol or speeding was a factor for the tractor-trailer driver, but were not yet sure regarding the pedestrian.
Police described the deceased as a white man in his 30s with short brown hair, and "of average height and weight."
There was nothing in the man's pockets to identify him, officials said. He did, however, have two tattoos, which police believed would be helpful in trying to identify him.
The first is a Grateful Dead-style tattoo on the inside of his left ankle. The other tattoo is an all-black design on his left forearm.
Those with any information about the man's identity should call 770-338-7430 ext. 5670.
