The two-time defending Class AAAAA state champion Norcross girls are ranked No. 16 in USA Today's season-opening national Top 25, three spots behind 2011 runner-up McEachern.
No. 13 McEachern defeated Norcross 55-43 in the Lady Blue Tip-Off at Norcross last week with a big fourth quarter. The teams are the only ones from Georgia in the USA Today rankings.
Norcross bounced from the opening loss with victories over Columbia and Fayette County. The Blue Devils get another tough early-season test next weekend when they host Alabama power Hoover.
McEachern was also ranked No. 13 in the ESPNU preseason Fab 50, with Norcross ranked No. 32.
Four-time defending Class A champion Wesleyan was No. 16 in the ESPNU rankings and three-time defending Class AA champion Buford came in at No. 17.
Wesleyan is 4-0 after winning its Turkey Tip-Off. Buford opens the season at home on Tuesday against Milton.-- Guy Curtright
