LAWRENCEVILLE -- Four agencies serving local residents have been awarded grants totaling $44,500 by the Jackson EMC Foundation, a charity funded by the Operation Round Up Program.
Awards included $15,000 to Gwinnett Children's Shelter in Lawrenceville to support its programs of weekly parenting classes that seek to decrease family violence by helping parents to develop and improve their parenting skills and helping teens better understand parenting issues and family dynamics.
St. Vincent de Paul Society of Duluth got $12,000. A nonprofit social service organization, St. Vincent de Paul Society is dedicated to serving members of the community during times of need to assist with rent and mortgage, temporary lodging, transportation, food and medical expenses.
Meet the Need Ministry of Gwinnett County received $10,000 to clothe, feed, house and transport men who are homeless, hungry, addicted to drugs or alcohol or need a helping hand.
Step by Step Recovery of Lawrenceville got $7,500. An addiction recovery organization, it provides a safe and structured environment for men and women as they complete a 12-step program to deal with drug and alcohol addiction.
Relay for Life Serve-a-thon raises $5,470
SUWANEE -- Peachtree Ridge Volleyball recently held its third annual Relay for Life Serve-a-thon, which raised $5,470 toward the school's $30,000 goal.
The freshman, Jr. varsity and varsity teams were sponsored by family members and friends for each of the 100 volleyball serves made during the fundraiser, with $2,500 in matching funds provided by Delta Community Bank.
Leading the way for the teams were Kathryn and Kathleen Davis, Cosette Morche, Fallon Wells, Rachel Parris and Haley Harvey.
Advisors named 2011 Five Star Wealth Managers
NORCROSS -- Dave Polstra, Chris Dardaman and Ray Padron, each of the Norcross/Peachtree Corners area, have been listed among the 2011 Five Star Wealth Managers for metro Atlanta.
Less than 7 percent of metro Atlanta wealth managers were included on the final list.
Before finalizing the list, each wealth manager was reviewed by a blue-ribbon panel of individuals in the financial services industry.
