Grayson prepares for holiday traditions

GRAYSON -- On Thursday, the city of Grayson continues a decades-long Christmas tradition, the lighting of the tree at 7 p.m. at the community park.

Elementary school choirs plan to perform at the event. There will also be photo opportunities with Santa Claus.

In addition, the annual Christmas Tour of Homes is scheduled for Dec. 3. From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Those who want to see the homes can take the tour, which starts at the Grayson Arts and History Center, 2070 Rosebud Road, Grayson. Tickets will be available for purchase at $15 in advance at the Arts and History Center. Same-day tickets are $20.

Organizer Barbara Hinkle said what sets the city's tour of homes apart from the rest is that "we furnish all transportation."

A van will take attendees to all the homes on the tour. Each tour lasts about two hours.

In addition, a free concert by the Grayson Music Company is scheduled at 7:30 p.m. at the Yancey House, 3865 Grayson New Hope Road for those who want to go.

Hinkle said last year's tour of homes brought out nearly 300 people, and organizers are hoping it will continue to grow.
