Grayson approves alcohol code changes

GRAYSON -- The Grayson City Council amended its alcohol beverage code for packaged sales Monday night, including a section stating that no interior building plans are required for a license application.

The ordinance, which goes into effect Dec. 19, requires that completed buildings must be approved by city and state inspectors. This includes sufficient lighting and adequate restroom facilities. Proof of building ownership or copy of a lease agreement also must be submitted by the packaged sales licensee, along with a site plan and survey.

The Council also heard a presentation by City Planner Steve Sappington on redevelopment concepts for the city's Town Center. "We want to show you what the downtown could look like," he said, showing photos where retail and office buildings, condos, and assisted living facilities could be constructed.

"We would like to create a Main Street in Grayson," said Sappington who added that plans could include a two-story office facility, residential dining areas, a park with a lake, and the reconstruction of an old church.

"It's a good start," said Mayor Jim Hinkle.

In other business, the Council:

-- Accepted a $10,800 bid from E.U. Russell for electrical repairs to the 438 Grayson Parkway building. Also accepted was a bid of $3,665 for rebuilding the east wall of the structure.

-- Heard Mayor Hinkle proclaim Nov. 26 as Small Business Saturday to promote small businesses in the city. Hinkle said there are 28 million small businesses in the U.S., providing 65 percent of jobs in America.

-- Announced that the Tour of Homes will be held Dec. 3 beginning at 10 a.m. with continuous shuttle buses to all the homes. Tickets are $15-$20.
