SUWANEE -- Thanksgiving is right around the corner which means mailing Christmas cards will soon be at the top of the to-do list. Want to send something purr-sonal for the holidays? Georgia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is hosting its annual Santa "Claws" pet photo shoot on Sunday. With a $10 donation, owners will walk away with a printed photo and a CD filled with all photos taken.
"It's adorable," Georgia SPCA's executive director Jane Stewart said. "If you don't have pets or don't want to bring them, you can bring your kids too because the money goes to a good cause." Last year, the event raise about $500, but the shelter is hoping for more this year. "We've gotten a lot of calls so far, which is a good thing," Stewart said. "We never set a goal for an event like this because whatever we make is profitable for us." As a nonprofit organization, the SPCA doesn't receive funds from outside sources. It stays open through adoption fees and donations given by the community. "I think it's a neat thing to do," Stewart said. "My pets will definitely have their pictures made this year as well." All of the proceeds go back into the Georgia SPCA, which helps with spaying and neutering, vaccinations and housing for the animals at the shelter. "Friendly" animals welcomed, including cats, dogs, rabbits and most birds. For a list of animals allowed in the photo shoot or to make an appointment, call the shelter at 678-765-2726.More like this story
