BERKELEY LAKE -- City council members voted Thursday to annex 55 commercial properties into Berkeley Lake. The parcels are located along Peachtree Industrial Boulevard, South Berkeley Lake Road, South Old Peachtree Road and Process Drive.
Fifteen properties in Habersham Subdivision and two along Bush Road in Gwinnett County will be annexed into the city soon, possibly as early as next month.
Salter announces dam repairs delayed
Mayor Lois Salter, in her monthly mayor's message, informed residents that the long-awaited repairs to the Lake Berkeley Dam will not begin as early as originally hoped.
"We then learned that money from FEMA does not flow quickly and were advised by GEMA officials not to begin moving dirt until the bureaucratic process was completed," Salter said in her mayor's message. Even though Berkeley Lake residents approved a bond referendum in March -- before FMEA agreed to shoulder the bulk of the repair costs -- Salter's advice is to wait until FEMA funds are actually released to begin construction.
"I know this is very frustrating for all of us, but I'm told we could actually slow down the process even more by moving ahead of the FEMA bureaucracy," the mayor also explained in her message to residents.
