LAWRENCEVILLE -- Fire investigators have charged a Duluth mother with felony arson for lighting a box ablaze in her family home last month, an official said Tuesday.
Joanne Parnes, 44, intentionally set a cardboard box on fire next to a bedroom where her husband was sleeping on Oct. 22, said Fire Department spokesman Lt. Eric Eberly.
Parnes lived in the Abbotts Point Drive home with her two sons and husband, who was able to quickly extinguish the fire before crews arrived.
The incident occurred about 2 a.m. and caused minor damages to carpeting, walls and bedroom doors, Eberly said.
Parnes was arrested Tuesday on first-degree arson charges. She remains at the Gwinnett County Jail without bond.
