Gwinnett softball players contributed greatly this past weekend as the Region 7/Region 8 team swept its three games in the Georgia Dugout Club's Senior All-State Games in Columbus.
The Region team, whose coaching staff included Collins Hill coach Paul Pierce and former Collins Hill coach Billy Dooley, beat Region by a score of 11-1, defeated Region 3-4 by an 11-3 margin and took a 5-1 win over Region 5-6.
Gwinnett players on the winning team were North Gwinnett's Lacey Najafi (sat out with injury), Mill Creek's Chandler Griffin and Nikki Sagermann, Collins Hill's Mckenzie Halstead, Kayla Floor and Brittany Roley and Brookwood's Brandi Jones.
Halstead had a hit, scored two runs and won the infield skills competition and Sagermann had three hits, three RBIs, two runs and won the home run derby with 10 homers. Floor, who had a hit on offense, pitched five innings, had two saves and struck out nine batters.
Roley had a hit, two runs and an RBI and Griffin also had a hit and an RBI. Jones had two hits (one double) and three RBIs, in addition to earning a victory in three innings as a pitcher.
