MACON — The mayor of Macon says a tire manufacturer's plans to build a sprawling plant in Bibb County have been delayed.
Mayor Robert Reichert tells The Telegraph that Gov. Nathan Deal met with representatives of the South Korean company on a recent oversees trip and learned that construction will not begin for at least two more years due to economic conditions.
Nearly four years ago, the company announced it would create 450 jobs by building a 1.3 million-square-foot manufacturing plant in south Bibb County.
Construction had been expected to begin in May of that year, with production beginning in fall of 2009.
The Georgia plant would be Kumho's first manufacturing plant outside Asia. The company, founded in 1960, is considered one of the world's largest tire makers.
