With all the critical voices being heard, I feel that someone needs to voice support for the HOT lanes. The HOT lanes have reduced my commute by 20-plus minutes each way, provided predictability where I previously had none, enabled me to put my daughter on the bus at 7:30 a.m. whereas I used to have to leave for work by 6:30 to try to avoid traffic jams, improved my fuel economy by more than 20 percent, and reduced my stress because I no longer have to sit in stop-and-go traffic.
After considering my fuel savings, the HOT lane costs $1 in the morning and less in the afternoon since the only jam worth paying to avoid is at Jimmy Carter Boulevard. It is a screaming deal that values my time at roughly $3 per hour. The HOT lanes have been a huge quality of life boost for me, and all I have to sacrifice in order to pay for that is a trip through a drive-through now and then, which my body appreciates anyway. If you need me, you can find me in the HOT lanes. Every single day. -- David Cathcart SuwaneeMore like this story
