One Georgia Tech signee will play his first game with a new team on Tuesday. Another will do the same on Saturday.
Robert Carter and Chris Bolden will draw plenty of attention as the high school season gets underway.
Carter, who moved from Thomasville, will make his debut on the road Tuesday as Shiloh plays at Centennial. Bolden, who transferred from Norcross, will play his first game for North Gwinnett against Greater Atlanta Christian on Saturday.
Bolden's debut comes in the Bulldog Classic, which is a boys-only event this year. Games will also be played on Nov. 21-22. The North Gwinnett-GAC game is the finale on Saturday, starting at approximately 8 p.m.
GAC is the only team playing three games. The two-time defending Class AA state champion will play Peachtree Ridge on Nov. 21 and Mill Creek on Nov. 22. North Gwinnett will play Hillgrove on Nov. 22.
Bolden joins the Bulldogs after helping lead Norcross to the Class AAAAA state title. He sank the decisive foul shots in the upset of Milton in the championship game and averaged 15 points for the season.
The 6-foot-3 guard signed with Georgia Tech after originally committing to Miami. Carter signed with the Yellow Jackets on Thursday, putting an exclamation point on coach Brian Gregory's first full recruiting class.
The 6-foot-9 Carter is considered one of the Top 25 players in the nation. He averaged 20.3 points, 14 rebounds and 2.5 blocks last season as Thomasville reached the Class AA quarterfinals. The year before, Thomasville lost to GAC for the AA title and Carter had 20 points in that game.
Shiloh is expected to be a factor in Class AAAAA this season after adding 7-foot sophomore Trayvon Reed as well as Carter. Reed moved from Montgomery, Ala.
In addition to the Bulldog Classic, Saturday's schedule also includes the Eric Snow Invitational at River Ridge and the Cobb-Gwinnett Challenge at Campbell. Defending Region 8-AAAAA champion Berkmar will play Centennial and Class AA runner-up Buford will play Parkview in the Eric Snow event.
Other events getting the season started include the Parkview Tip-Off, the Lanier Thanksgiving Tournament and the Under Armour Classic at Archer. All of those feature both girls and boys games.
Parkview will play Lassiter in the opening round of its tournament on Thursday The annual event continues on Saturday and Nov. 21-22.
