Grayson Tech honors veterans

GRAYSON -- The students of Grayson Technical Program are using their talents this week to honor veterans.

Juniors and seniors paid tribute to those who have served in the military using audio recording equipment to preserve their stories. On Thursday, they visited the Life Care Center of Gwinnett, a nursing home in Lawrenceville. Music technology students interviewed war veterans, recording audio history.

"The students wanted to memorialize these veterans, and by doing this type of community project the students learn what these people mean to the community," Assistant Principal Jennifer Fero said.

In addition, students in the photography program are currently offering to restore old or damaged photos by digitally enhancing them with computer software.

"If anybody in the community has old photos of veterans, the students will rejuvenate those photos," Fero said.

Those who want to have a photo submitted for restoration can e-mail it to grayson_tech_programs@gwinnett.k12.ga.us. Photos should be high resolution.

Fero said the projects benefitted the audio and photography students by letting them practice their craft as well as "allowing them to learn about the lives and sacrifices of those who served in the military."

Grayson Technical Program is a career and technology school located next to Grayson High School.
