LAWRENCEVILLE -- At an upcoming open house, riders of the express buses to downtown Atlanta can learn of changes to the routes proposed because of the Atlanta streetcar project.
The meetings for the metropolitan regional commuter service Xpress is being held in conjunction with Cobb Community Transit and Gwinnett County Transit.
One of the four meetings is scheduled for Gwinnett, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15 at Discover Mills Mall.
According to officials, the routes will be divided into two groups -- one on the west side of downtown and one on the east side.
In general, the westside routes will follow a corridor along Forsyth Street and Centennial Olympic Park Drive and Williams Street. They will not serve the Civic Center MARTA Station, a press release said. Instead, the civic Center station will be served by Midtown routes coming from the same park and ride used by these Westside routes.
The release said the eastside routes generally will follow a corridor along Central Avenue, Peachtree Center Avenue and Spring Street.
The proposed changes implement an agreement with the city of Atlanta, Central Atlanta Progress and MARTA to move the service off Peachtree Street. The move would also avoid construction on the first segment of the Atlanta Streetcar, where utility relocations are scheduled to begin in December.
