Shoe box gifts needed for Christmas

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Local volunteers are looking for people willing to fill empty shoe boxes with school supplies, toys, hygiene items and notes of encouragement from Nov. 14-21.

Operation Christmas Child is an effort that has hand-delivered 86 million gifts to kids worldwide since 1993.

Those who wish to donate can drop off their shoe box gifts at one of two local locations to help children in more than 100 countries.

Local collection sites and times:

Lawrenceville Church of God, 329 Grayson Highway, Lawrenceville, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday and Tuesday; 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday; 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday; 4 to 8 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday; and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Life Church International, 4830 River Green Parkway, Duluth, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday; 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday; 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday; and 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday.

Publix, Falcons team up to fight hunger

LAWRENCEVILLE -- The Atlanta Falcons have joined Publix to help feed needy families this holiday season with the FalCan Drive Nov. 14-20. Proceeds benefit the Atlanta Community Food Bank.

Canned food donations made to the Publix Food for Sharing food drive at all metro Atlanta Publix locations will benefit the effort.

Customers who make donations to the food drive will also be eligible to participate in a special buy-one-get-one offer for Falcons tickets. The tickets are available at Publix Ticketmaster locations only.
