SUWANEE -- A national organization that works to promote sustainable and environmentally responsible planning and construction recently recognized Gwinnett County Public Schools.
Hosted by the United States Green Building Council Georgia Chapter, the 2011 Leadership in Energy Efficiency Award honored the school district for efforts in meeting standards for water and energy efficiency.
Held Nov. 3-4 at the Georgia World Congress Center, the High Performance Healthy Schools Regional Summit brought more than 25 public school districts to the event.
Participants learned about green schools through workshops on energy and water efficiency, indoor air quality, recycling and waste management and environmental integrated curriculum.
Gwinnett County Public Schools also was recently awarded for its Energy Star efficiency, an initiative by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
