Dacula moves forward on road construction projects

DACULA -- City council members voted to advertise for construction bids for Mobley Drive, Superior Drive and Laura Lane on Thursday.

The contract will provide for asphalt base reclamation and replacement. According to city administrator, these projects will be fully funded by SPLOST money.

Council members also approved a $46,000 change order for the Williams Farm Drive road improvement project. The soil under the cul-de-sac portion of the road is unsuitable for proper compaction, so stone must be added to the base in order to stabilize the asphalt. Osborn stated Thursday that the actual cost of the amendment will be closer to $25,000.

This portion of the road repair that involved the soft, spongy base "was one of the worst ... I've ever seen," said Osborn.

Also, a public hearing for the upcoming fiscal year budget will be held at 6:30 p.m. on November 22 at City Hall. Council members will vote on the budget at the Dec. 1 City Council meeting.
