GIRLS

ARCHER TIGERS

Coach Johnson's take: "We are just so excited to be attending the state meet in only our second year of competing at the AAAAA level. We just hope to better our finish from last year and to gain some valuable experience that our young runners can build upon in the upcoming years."

BROOKWOOD BRONCOS

Coach Carter's take: "The girls have decided that we're going to go down there and give it everything we've got, do the best we can on that day, and leave it all on the course. All of these girls have significant state meet

experience in both cross country and track. That familiarity with big meets

will be an asset for us on Saturday."

COLLINS HILL EAGLES

Coach Hudson's take: "Our girls team lacked depth when we started but they have come together nicely. Region was the first time where we put all the pieces together this season. The pack has developed a great ability to move through races in the latter stages. We hope to continue to run with confidence and surprise ourselves and others with a great performance at state. We want to see how high into the top 10 we can get."

GRAYSON RAMS

Coach: Bethany Mozley

Coach Mozley's take: "The girls have been training on tough hills and have run progressively faster, so we hope for this to be our best and strongest race."

PARKVIEW PANTHERS

Coach: James Tigue

Coach Tigue's take: "These girls have improved in every race they have run in this year and based on the last few week of practice, I see no reason for this to change on Saturday. Our goal is challenge for one of the top three spots at state and to be the best team from Gwinnett County."

PEACHTREE RIDGE LIONS

Coach: Ron Clanton

Coach Clanton's take: "The Ridge girls won their first region championship ever Saturday without our No. 1 runner Lauren Kelly, who has been out the last three weeks with an injury. With Lauren expecting to return, I think our girls team has a chance to run well enough to get a spot on the podium and improve upon last year's sixth place finish."

MILL CREEK HAWKS

Coach Brand's take: "The girls have been working hard all season overcoming many obstacles, so we feel like we have something to prove. As the girls would say 'We be shuffling.'"

NORTH GWINNETT BULLDOGS

Coach Rowland's take: "North Gwinnett is looking to continue its strong performances at the state meet. They are led by sophomores Courtney Czernaik, Natalie Raia, and senior All-State performer Jordan Humphrey. North has been training specifically for the challenging Carrollton course and focusing on decreasing the time spread between their top five finishers."

GAC SPARTANS

Coach: Brad Kinser

Top 7 runners: Abigail Mistretta, Sr., Kelsey Fervier, Sr., Anna Collett, Sr., Alison Shin, Sr., Katherine Hamil, Sr., Megan Malone, Jr., Jen Capers, Soph.

Coach Kinser's take: "The GAC girls cross country team is looking forward to getting back to the state meet. The team finished fourth in the tough 6-AA region and hopes to finish the season with great race at state. The team is led by three seniors -- Kelsey Fervier who placed 10th at region, Abigail Mistretta who is a four-year varsity runner and Anna Collett who is running cross country for the first time this year."

PROVIDENCE STARS

Coach: Charlene Preg

Top 7 runners: Tayler Tuttle, Soph., Ellie Thomas, Soph., Evangeline Crist, Soph., Hannah Grice, Soph., Rebekah Bullard, Soph. Rachel Bullard, Soph. Natasha Nori, Soph.

Coach Preg's take: Our seven talented sophomore girls have had a great season and are prepared to do their best on Saturday. With everyone running well, it could be their first time on the podium together, especially with the addition of Tayler Tuttle as our newest star. As their coach, I am thankful to have a close knit group that continues to excel as they represent Providence at state."

WESLEYAN WOLVES

Coach: Chad McDaniel

Coach McDaniel's take: "It is an honor to coach the Wesleyan girls team this season for the first time. This team is special in both talent and disposition, with a number of excellent runners and leaders. The Class A girls race will be as competitive as it has ever been and our girls team is honored to be considered in the conversation. We are excited about the opportunity to run together as a team one more time this season.

BOYS

Coach Carlyle's take: "This is a great opportunity for our program to compete on the state level. The guys are extremely excited about qualifying for the first time in our school's history. This week we will stay focused and be ready to compete this weekend."

BROOKWOOD BRONCOS

Coach Dehnke's take: "We'll be trying to defend our state title from 2010. I expect that our six seniors will be determined to leave their mark on the program. At every meet so far this season, we've had a different guy step up and perform well to lift up the team. Hopefully that will happen this weekend as well."

COLLINS HILL EAGLES

Coach Hudson's take: "This group was lacking experience at the beginning of the season, but they have worked as hard as any group we've had and have shown vast improvement. They have a nice balance and a lot of heart and determination. The boys AAAAA state this year is wide-open after Brookwood and we are hoping a great race will give us a chance at a trophy, but top six to eight is certainly within our capabilities."

GRAYSON RAMS

Coach: Alex Sawyer

Top 7: Derrick Bell, Sr., Michael Ziegler, Sr., Parker Davis, Fr., Christian Brook, Fr., Javaughn Anderson, Soph., Asim Atkinson, Sr., Paul

Coach Sawyer's take: "As this is a rebuilding year for Grayson, we would like to have our squad finish in the top 10. We're excited about Derrick Bell and hope that he can finish in the top 15 runners in the state. We're also excited about our standout freshman, Parker Davis, and hope that he can run a time in the low 17s."

MILL CREEK HAWKS

Coach: Andy Christie

Top 7 runners: Eric Westog, Soph., Mitch Flammang, Sr., Tyler Kvietkus, Sr., Andy Hull, Sr., Tajay Hoppines, Sr., Richard Fuller, Jr., Josh Arceneaux, Soph.

Coach Christie's take: "We're excited about entering the meet as Region 7-AAAAA champs, but our main goal all year has been top four and a trophy at state. We're going to give it our best shot, knowing that there are several other very talented teams with the same goal. We'll just focus on our own race and see how it all shakes out. Whatever happens, I'm very proud of the boys. They're a tight knit group that is really focused and determined."

NORCROSS BLUE DEVILS

Coach: John Williams

Top 7 runners: Arman Rehmann, Jr., Nick Delguercio, Jr., Sam Todd, Jr., Jacob Winters, Jr., Jordan Herbert, Sr., Charles Gromley, Sr., Matthew Sutton, Jr.

Coach Willams' take: "Our goal for the entire year has been to work hard, to give 100 percent effort and set no limit on what we can achieve at every race that we enter. So far we have done that and that is what we want to continue."

PARKVIEW PANTHERS

Coach: James Tigue

Top 7 runners: Philip Musey, Sr., Nicholas Schofer, Soph., Alec Harp, Soph., Alex Sullivan, Soph., Luke Jensen, Sr., Thomas Whitmire, Sr., Daniel Sandler, Sr.

Coach Tigue's take: "Without an obvious front-runner on the team, we are are going to have to have a very small gap between our first and fifth runner on Saturday if we want to be one of the top seven or eight teams at state."

PEACHTREE RIDGE LIONS

Coach: Ron Clanton

Top 7 runners: Mason Havens, Sr., Noor Sidawi, Sr., Thomas Overfield, Sr.,

Josh Brickell, Jr., Andrew Bright, Jr., Kevin Mills, Soph., Mac Stewart, Soph.

Coach Clanton's take: "The boys team has been on the podium each of the last three years, winning state in 2008. For this team to make the top four and a place on the podium again they will have to have a great day out of our three seniors. Josh Brickell will be going for his second individual state title. Josh is currently ranked 15th in the nation among high school runners and is having a great season. Sophomore Kevin Mills should also make a strong showing at state this weekend."

GAC SPARTANS

Coach: Brad Kinser

Top 7 runners: John Keeton, Sr., Chris Woodard, Sr., Andrew Gipson, Sr. David McMurray, Sr., Jake Shumard, Soph., Ben Hensley, Soph., Miller Kettle, Fr.

Coach Kinser's take: "The GAC boys cross country team qualified for state for the first time since 2005. They finished fourth at region with their best race of the year and hope to continue the good racing at state. The team is lead by senior Chris Woodard, who placed third at the region and who should be among the leaders in the AA race at state."

PROVIDENCE STARS

Coach: Charlene Preg

Top 7 runners: Jonathan Duffie, Jr., James Watkins, Jr., Owen Chasteen, Soph., Austin Gilbert, Soph., Nate Kindig, Jr., Tony Mills, Sr., Isaac Chasteen, Sr.

Coach Preg's take: "The Providence boys will be back at state this year to show what they can do after a narrowly missed opportunity to compete in 2010. Our runners are led by juniors Jonathan Duffie and James Watkins. The team works together well and have a bond like brothers this season. It will be exciting to see the final result of their growth and the effort they will give on the Carrollton course."

WESLEYAN WOLVES

Coach: Chad McDaniel

Coach McDaniel's take: "The 2011 boys team is an incredible group to work with and our current senior class has contributed to state championships in each of the past two seasons. I am proud of them, not only for success in running, but for their total commitment to team that they show each day through hard work, encouragement and leadership. Our goal this Saturday is to run our best at the most important race of the year."
