Gwinnett County had six players picked to represent Georgia in the region in the National Lacrosse Classic.
Noah Alexander Holt, Garrett Miller, Greg Rose, Ali Cole, Eric Reynolds and Aaron Amin were selected to the High School Underclassmen All-American team and will compete in the tournament in Germantown, Maryland, on July 5-8. Peachtree Ridge and Duluth had two players selected to the team. Miller, who is the son of Bruce and Rebecca Miller, was a junior defenseman for the Lions this year and Rose, the son of Tom and Meredith Rose, was a junior goalkeeper. Cole, the daughter of Lou and Kendra Cole, was a sophomore midfielder for Duluth and Holt, the daughter of Allan and Italia Metts, was a sophomore attacker. Amin, who is the son of Al and Jaimie Amin, was a freshman captain for North Gwinnett. Reynolds, the son of John and Karen Reynolds, was a junior midfielder for Greater Atlanta Christian last season. SOCCER AFU claims Xtreme Cup The Atlanta Fire United U10 Boys Silver team won the 6v6 Gold Division at the United Futbol Academy Xtreme Cup Soccer Tournament May 21-22. They went 4-0-0 en route to the title and won the final 7-3 against the Georgia Rush U10 Brazil. The team is coached by Gregg Tavani. Team members are Lance Millard, Preston Rhodes, Chris Shelton, Brooks Hoover. Julian Hahn, Ethan Keairnes, Nick Autry, Chandler Evans and Julian Linde. BASKETBALL Heat Check win championship The Heat Check 10U boys basketball team won the championship at the Eric Snow Mother’s Day Classic Tournament in Marietta on May 9. The Heat Check defeated Team Atlanta 49-24 to win the title. Team members are Noah Scales, Kyle Hamilton, Nick Watson, Nick Jackson, Brandon Green, Josh Downs, Warren Burrell, Jaden Brown, Kameron King, Brian Knight, Jaylin Hall and Andres Brodie The team is coached by Patrick Scales, Tony Green and Ron Scales. ROWING Cathcart, Rodgers lead team to championship North Gwinnett’s Jay Cathcart and Graham Rodgers were members of the four-event novice boat, a 2,000-meter race, that won the Junior Southeast Championship at the Olympic rowing venue at Lake Lanier. Other team members were Flowery Branch’s Dominic Lo and Gainesville’s Will Hemphill and Hyder Hasnan. SOFTBALL Wildcats go undefeated The Duluth Wildcats One 8-and-under softball team complete an undefeated season, going 12-0 this year. Team members are Natiah Turner, Serenity Starr, Eva Garcia, Raegan Lambert, Jaelyn Ford, Brooke Woods, Brady Woods, JaNiece Long, Talayaha Thomas and Aniika King. The team was coached by Dwayne Brooks, April Woods and Cristi Ford. WRESTLING Castaneda takes second at national tourney Archer’s Zoe Castaneda took second for Team Georgia Wrestling at Body Bar Girls/Women’s Nationals. The tournament also serves as a World Team Trials for the Cadet and Junior age groups ages 15-19. Castaneda, a three-time All-American and girls state champion, and Amy Hou were second in the Cadet division and will be traveling with USA Wrestling to Guelph, Ontario in June to compete at the Canada Cup. Karley Speer was fifth in the Junior Division, Amber Pair took fifth in the Cadet. Caitlin Ertzberger was third, Mara Lamon second and Simona Floyd won the schoolgirl division. Hailey Horton won the novice classification. Other competitiors in the tournament from Georgia were Akeia Miles, Logan Mallory, Emily Pinson and December Ivey.
