Platoon 25th anniversary (Blu-ray + DVD) (R)
Movie: 3 1/2 out of 4 stars
Discs: 4 out of 4 stars
Not quite as good as filmmaker Oliver Stone's other Vietnam War epic ("Born on the Fourth of July"), "Platoon" is nonetheless one of his greatest achievements. The lead character (played by Charlie Sheen) is based on Stone himself and his horrific experiences as a grunt soldier which pales in comparison to the scathing performances from Best Supporting Actor nominees Willem Dafoe and Tom Berenger. This immaculate 25th anniversary edition is an indispensible must-own for any fan of the war genre.
Technical specs: aspect ratios: Widescreen (1.85:1/1080p), audio: English (DTS HD-MA 5.1, 4.0 Digital Surround), French and Spanish (DTS and 5.1 Dolby Digital), subtitles: English, French and Spanish.
Special features include:
* Commentaries
* Three-part featurette
* Deleted and extended scenes
* Three documentaries

* Trailers and TV spots
(MGM, $29.99)
