LAWRENCEVILLE -- An Atlanta man is charged with assaulting a pregnant nurse and making death threats at Gwinnett Medical Center this week.
Lawrenceville police arrested Tony Grimes, 39, after he allegedly punched a registered nurse, who is five-months pregnant, in her chest and threatened to kill her and security officers Monday morning.
Grimes was admitted to the GMC emergency room with "some kind of foot injury" and was receiving a shot in his arm from the nurse when he lashed out, according to a police report.
Records indicate Grimes may suffer from mental illness.
"Grimes stated he was going to shoot them, that he was going to kill them all, and the he was going to wait out in the parking lot for them to get off work," Lawrenceville police officer D. Gajda wrote in a report.
Police arrived to find Grimes restrained to a hospital bed and arrested him. No injuries were reported.
Grimes' arrest warrant lists him as a "schizophrenia and psychosis" sufferer. He remains at the Gwinnett County Jail on charges of simple battery and terroristic threats and acts.
No bond has been set.
