Mr. William James Verschuren, age 74, of Buford, GA passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2011. He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Mary Ellen Verschuren, Buford, GA; son, William B. Verschuren, Duluth, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia J. and Scott Soder, Alpharetta, GA; grandchildren, Zachary Soder and Will Soder; brother and sister-in-law, John C. and Linda Verschuren, Athens, GA; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Verschuren was born October 15, 1936 in Ford City, PA. He was a 1955 graduate of Ford City High School and a 1959 graduate of Indiana University of PA where he received his Bachelor's Degree. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army. He was a retired teacher and high school coach in the Union County Regional School District at Governor Livingston High School in Berkeley Heights, NJ after forty years of service. He was a member of the L. A. Roadster Club, Los Angeles, CA, a member of the V.F.W. in Duluth, GA and a member of the Buford American Legion Post. He was a member of Prince Of Peace Catholic Church in Flowery Branch, GA. Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, May 20, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Prince Of Peace Catholic Church with Father Eric Hill serving as Celebrant. Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA with military honors. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday morning from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Ronnie Green Heart Center, c/o Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville, GA or to Prince Of Peace Catholic Church Building Fund, Flowery Branch, GA, in memory of William James Verschuren.
