LAWRENCEVILLE -- Gwinnett County Public Schools' calendar for the 2011-12 year includes teacher furlough days on Oct. 10 and March 12.

The updated calendar, released Friday, also moves early release days for elementary and middle school students from Nov. 2 and 3 to Oct. 3 and 4. The change was made based on requests from school principals, spokeswoman Sloan Roach said.

Furlough days for 12-month employees have been set for Dec. 19 and 20.

The calendar restores a full pre-planning week for teachers. For the past two years, two of the five planning days have been used as unpaid furlough days.

The first day of school is set for Aug. 8, and the last day of school is scheduled to be May 23.
