PAWTUCKET, R.I. — The Gwinnett Braves defeated the Pawtucket Red Sox by a score of 2-0 at McCoy Stadium Wednesday night.
Rodrigo Lopez (5-0) was sensational for the Braves in earning his fifth victory. With the win, the Gwinnett Braves (18-14) remain in second place in the International League South division.
In the top of the third inning, Jordan Schafer hit his sixth double of the year, allowing Jose Constanza to score.
Lopez pitched seven shutout innings on his way his fifth victory. He allowed three hits, two walks and seven strikeouts. Scott Proctor came into the game in relief and pitched one inning, allowing one hit, one walk and one strikeout. Jairo Asencio earned his fourth save of the year, pitching a perfect ninth inning.
Schafer connected for his sixth double and finished the night going 1-for-4 with an RBI. Matt Young went 1-for-2 with an RBI and two walks and a stolen base.
Kyle Weiland (2-4) earned the loss, tossing six innings and allowing two hits, two earned runs and four walks. He struck out nine. Dennis Neuman came on in relief and finished out the game, throwing three innings with three strikeouts.
Matt Sheely provided most of the offense for the PawSox going 3-for-3 with a stolen base.
The Gwinnett Braves finish their series vs. the Pawtucket Red Sox tonight at McCoy Stadium at 12:15 p.m. The G-Braves will send out Julio Teheran (3-0, 1.80) vs. Andrew Miller (1-2, 2.45) for the PawSox.
