LAWRENCEVILLE -- Investigators used pictures on Facebook to help link a suspected chop shop operator to a stolen motorcycle, police said Wednesday.
Gwinnett police on Tuesday arrested Lawrenceville resident Dwight Harmon, 25, on charges of theft by taking motor vehicle, theft by receiving motor vehicle, operating or conducting a chop shop and possession of tools used in the commission of a crime.
Investigators are searching for two other men with ties to the operation, and further charges are pending, said Gwinnett police spokesman Cpl. Edwin Ritter.
The motorcycle, a 2007 Yamaha Y2F-R6, was stolen from the Preserve at Legacy Park apartment complex in Lawrenceville about 2:15 a.m. Monday. A neighbor told police he witnessed two men loading it into a pickup truck before driving away, according to a police report.
One of the thieves dropped a cell phone during the incident, which officers found ringing when they arrived. Police tracked the caller's address to a home on Briarfield Way in Lawrenceville, where they found Harmon exiting a garage containing the motorcycle, Ritter said.
Police arrested Harmon and found pictures of him with the hot bike on his Facebook page, Ritter said. His arrest warrant states he was removing parts from the motorcycle and covering its vehicle identification number to disguise it in the Briarfield Way garage.
Harmon remains at the Gwinnett County Jail without bond, pending a May 19 probable cause hearing.
