Evelyn Batchelor Yancey, age 81, of Grayson, Georgia, entered into rest on Sunday, May 8, 2011. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Yancey of Grayson, GA; son & daughter-in-law, Bob & Teresa Yancey and two grandchildren, James Yancey and Robyn Yancey all of Jacksonville, FL; two brothers, Herschel & Betty Batchelor of Villa Rica, GA and Curtis Batchelor of Fort Payne, AL; a sister, Hazel Yancey of Nashville, GA; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 27 years, Grady Hamilton Yancey in 1977. Evelyn Yancey was born in Fort Payne, Alabama on August 3, 1929 to Alma Lee Jackson Batchelor and Otis Franklin Batchelor. She graduated from Grayson High School and was a member of the Chestnut Grove Baptist Church. Mrs. Yancey was a hard worker. She worked in the Grayson Elementary School lunchroom for 16 years, the Grayson Golf Range for 29 years, and maintained the cleanliness of the Snellville Medical Center for many years. She loved to cut grass at her home in Grayson and used a push-mower until she had to start cutting the grass with a self-propelled mower, which she really didn't like to do. Mrs. Yancey will be missed by her family and many friends that she loved in the Grayson community. A Service Celebrating the Life of Evelyn Yancey will be held Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at 1:00 P.M. at Tom M. Wages Lawrenceville Chapel with Rev. J.B. Reese, Jr. officiating. Interment Chestnut Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 5:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Flowers are accepted.
