Suwanee's Arts in the Park to be hands-on experience

SUWANEE -- The city of Suwanee will once again celebrate "the art of making art" when its annual Arts in the Park Festival comes to Town Center Park later this month.

The event organized by the North Gwinnett Arts Association will begin at 11 a.m. on May 21. More than 40 juried artists will be featured, with pottery, jewelry, painting, photography, writing and elemental art all represented during the day-long festival.

Visitors will have the chance to observe artists at work, as well as participate in the ChalkWalk competition, which pits self-styled artists of all ages against each other in a sidewalk chalk drawing contest.

"If 'the art of making art' is the theme of our festival," NGAA President Vickie Johnson said, "then interactivity is the thread that ties it all together. Through both the artist demonstrations and art creation activities, our audience will have a real hands-on experience with art."

A full lineup of entertainment will be available into the evening, with everyone from the Taiwanese School of Georgia Drum Troupe to mystery writer David Fulmer and magician "Queen Glitter" taking the stage at Town Center.

Admission to Arts in the Park is free, but local art will be for sale.

Food vendors will also be on site. No alcohol will be available for purchase and will not be allowed into the park.
