Wesleyan ousts Lincoln County on road

LINCOLNTON — Will Anderson had four hits and Wesleyan belted four home runs to sweep their first-round doubleheader in the Class A state playoffs with wins of 15-11 and 11-1 at Lincoln County on Friday.

Anderson also drove in a pair of runs in the opener, while Gardner Heaner had three hits, including a homer, and four RBIs and Drew Widner added three hits with a homer.

Alex Thykeson also had a homer among his two hits to help make a winner of Jeremy Shirley, who threw five innings out of the bullpen.

In Game 2, Joseph Sheffield set the tone with a grand slam, and finished with two hits and five RBIs.

Also contributing offensively for the Wolves (21-7) was Mason Colquitt, who had two hits.

Jamie Stark threw all five innings in the run-rule-shortened game, giving up just three hits and one run with three strikeouts.
